Why Are We Always at War… Especially With Ourselves?

October 29, 20211 min read

We seem to be at war with everything these days—there’s a war on drugs, a war on terror, a war on obesity. War, war, war. However, when we approach things like health and fitness from this “battle” mindset, what we’re really doing is turning that war inward fighting against ourselves.

The question is:

Why do we have to be at war with our own bodies?

When we shift the focus from punishment to nourishment—when we care for our bodies, feed them well, move with consistency and purpose, and give them proper rest—our bodies thrive. Exercise, at its core, should help us stay youthful, capable, and full of energy so we can keep doing the things we love without constant exhaustion.

Let me ask:

  • Are you pushing yourself to the point of throwing up?

  • Do you live by “no pain, no gain”?

  • Do you beat yourself up when you miss a workout?

  • Are you constantly chasing more—more workouts, more weight loss, more intensity—while ignoring rest and nutrition?

If that sounds familiar, you might be tipping into harm, not health.

As a trainer, I’ve seen the shift that happens when people with injuries or chronic limitations learn to move in ways that support healing and longevity. True fitness isn’t about breaking your body down. It’s about enhancing quality of life—not adding to joint wear and tear or flooding your body with toxins in the name of quick fixes.

This is the kind of coaching I offer: fitness with kindness, not combat. Because your health journey shouldn’t feel like a warzone.

Be you everyone else is taken.
